Abstract
To elucidate the effects of application time of Promalin on tree and fruit growth, fruit quality and maturity of ¢¥Kamcheonbae¢¥ and ¢¥Whangkuembae¢¥ pears, 18 §·¡¤L^(-1) Promalin solution was foliar-sprayed 25, 35, and 45 days after full bloom (DAFB). Top growth was not affected by Promalin. Fruit stalk weight of ¢¥Kamcheonbae¢¥ was highest with 45 DAFB treatment. Fruit stalk diameter of ¢¥Kamcheonbae¢¥ increased as the application time was delayed while decreased by 25 DAFB treatment, and that of ¢¥Whangkeumbae¢¥ was slightly increased by 45 DAFB treatment. Fruit weight increased with the 45 DAFB treatment. Sugar concentration of ¢¥Kamcheonbae¢¥ was not much affected while that of ¢¥Whangkeumbae¢¥ was decreased with earlier treatments, and increased by 45 DAFB treatment. Sugar concentration was either decreased (Kamcheonbae) or increased (Whangkeumbae) by 25 DAFB treatment. Flesh firmness of ¢¥Kamcheonbae¢¥ was higher as the application time was delayed while that of ¢¥Whangkeumbae¢¥ was not significantly affected. Fruits of two cultivars matured 4 days earlier by Promalin. A sharp increase in fruit weight was shown from early July. However, fruit growth slowed down from early September and nearly ceased from mid-October in ¢¥Whangkeumbae¢¥. From the result of fruit weight increase by 45 DAFB treatment in the two cultivars, the end of cell division period was thought to be around 45 DAFB.
